Pham Thi Thien welcomes guests to her new house on July 25.
At the inauguration ceremony on July 25, Do Dinh Hung, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Que Son Commune, stated that many impoverished families in the area still reside in dilapidated houses. Among them, Thien’s household was assessed as being in the most challenging condition and was prioritised for support.
However, with only VND 60 million (approximately USD 2,350) in government support, building a new house was nearly impossible for Thien. The local authorities proposed that Dantri/Dtinews publish an article calling for public donations. Readers responded by contributing VND 67 million (approximately USD 2,620).
“On behalf of the commune, I sincerely thank Dantri for connecting the community. Today, with the house completed, Thien is no longer exposed to storms. Both her family and our local officials are deeply grateful,” Hung shared.
Construction of Thien’s new home began on June 16. The total cost was VND 120 million (approximately USD 5,300), with the remaining funds used to purchase household essentials, including a bed, kitchenware, and other necessities. After around one month of construction, the new house was completed.

Welcoming visitors to her new home, 61-year-old Thien expressed relief. “I’m so happy today. In the past, whenever it rained, I couldn’t sleep from worry that the house would collapse. Now, with this new home, I no longer fear the storms,” she said.
She also extended her heartfelt thanks to Dantri/Dtinews readers and the local authorities who helped make her new home a reality.
In response to the government's national campaign to eliminate makeshift and dilapidated homes, Dantri/Dtinews has set a goal of building 200 houses for poor and near-poor families between 2024 and 2025.
Since April 2024, Dantri has launched the construction of 186 houses, of which 126 have been completed to date.
On July 15, to mark the 20th anniversary of Dantri/Dtinews, various businesses participated in a ceremony to launch the construction of 20 additional houses, contributing to the overall goal of building 200 homes.
Alongside housing projects, Dantri/Dtinews has also completed 57 classrooms, 31 rural bridges and roads, 50 flood-resistant floating houses, organised 25 free health check programmes for over 6,000 people, distributed 5,054 free health insurance cards to underprivileged students, and launched fundraising campaigns for nearly 6,000 families in exceptional hardship.
