Indian producer Rahul Bali has announced plans to film the Bollywood movie Silaa at Son Doong Cave and several iconic Vietnamese destinations, including Ninh Binh, Cao Bang, Ha Long, Ba Na Hills and Hoi An. This will be the first Bollywood film ever shot at these landmark locations in Vietnam.

Production is scheduled to begin in July 2025, with a global release planned for 2026. The film will star popular Bollywood actors Harshvardhan Rane and Sadia Khateeb in the lead roles.

“Silaa marks a milestone in cinematic collaboration between India and Vietnam and serves as a powerful tool to promote cultural exchange and Vietnamese tourism,” said Rahul Bali.

The film’s director, Omung Kumar, visited Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park in 2024 to scout locations, including the world-renowned Son Doong Cave and Hang Tien.

“This will be the most magical and challenging film I have ever made. No film has ever been shot in this location before. The scouting trip alone was not for the faint of heart,” Kumar shared.

Silaa follows the success of Love in Vietnam, the first official co-production between India and Vietnam, which premiered at the Danang Asian Film Festival on July 1.

The film previously generated international buzz when it was introduced at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. With a budget of USD 4 million, Love in Vietnam features Vietnamese actress Kha Ngan and Indian stars Avneet Kaur and Shantanu Maheshwari. It was filmed across multiple Vietnamese locations, including Dalat, Danang, Hoi An, Phu Yen, Nha Trang and Ha Long.

The film is slated for global release in major markets such as North America, Europe, Australia, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and India in September 2025.

Following the success of Love in Vietnam and the promising launch of Silaa, collaboration with Bollywood, the world’s second-largest film industry, offers not only unprecedented opportunities to promote Vietnam’s tourism but also a significant boost to its film industry.
