According to the HCM City Centre for Disease Control, during the first 27 weeks of this year, the post-merger city reported 14,370 dengue fever cases, up 153.3 per cent on-year.
Specifically, the former HCM City area reported 11,014 cases, up 158 per cent on-year. Binh Duong had 2,494 cases, a 145 per cent rise, while Ba Ria-Vung Tau logged 862 cases, up 122 per cent on-year.
During the week between June 30 and July 6, HCM City witnessed 838 dengue cases, an increase of 43 from the previous week (795 cases).
So far this year, the city recorded six dengue fever-related fatalities.
According to the HCM City Department of Health, the city is entering the peak of the rainy season, creating favourable conditions for dengue fever. Weekly case numbers are rising rapidly and spreading across a wider area.
Compared to the 2019-2022 period, major dengue outbreaks in HCM City have consistently occurred between mid-June and late August.
HCM City’s health authorities have urged residents to eliminate mosquito breeding sites by removing standing water and covering household water containers.
Anyone with a fever should seek medical attention promptly and avoid self-treatment at home. Residents have also been urged to actively cooperate with health authorities in mosquito control campaigns and chemical spraying efforts.
