HCM City pilots illuminated traffic signs

HCM City has piloted illuminated traffic signs to enhance night-time visibility and reduce the risk of accidents at high-risk intersections.

According to a representative from HCM City’s Road Infrastructure Management Centre, the LED-backlit signs stay continuously illuminated, helping drivers spot them from afar in low-light conditions like rain, fog, or at night.

In June, the centre installed signs in high-traffic areas, including Ton Duc Thang Street, Pham Van Chi Bridge, Lang Cha Ca Roundabout, and Hoang Van Thu pedestrian bridge.

The illuminated signs improve visibility and help reduce accidents at collision-prone intersections by providing clear, easily recognisable information that allows drivers to react early and adjust speed or direction as needed.

After the pilot, the centre will evaluate its impact and consider expanding the illuminated sign system to other major routes across the city.

A resident near the Hoang Van Thu pedestrian bridge said that the illuminated signs are modern and easy to see, especially during busy evenings. They help prevent lane mistakes, and he hopes the system is expanded citywide.
