The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has warned of continued heavy rainfall across northern Vietnam from the evening of July 10 through July 12, with some areas expected to receive exceptionally high rainfall.
Rainfall in the northern region is expected to range between 70 and 150 millimetres, with some locations potentially exceeding 300 millimetres. Authorities have issued alerts for localised downpours reaching up to 150 millimetres within a three-hour period. Rainfall is expected to ease starting July 13.
Nguyen Van Huong, a meteorologist at the national weather forecasting centre, warned that mountainous provinces including Lang Son, Cao Bang, and Thai Nguyen face a high risk of flash floods and landslides in the coming days.
Meanwhile, lowland areas in the Red River Delta, including Hanoi, Hung Yen, Hai Phong and Ninh Binh, are also at risk of urban flooding due to high-intensity rain, Huong said.
The central provinces of Nghe An and Ha Tinh are forecast to see scattered showers and thunderstorms, with isolated heavy rain in some areas. From Quang Tri to Hue and along the south-central coast, daytime weather will be sunny, with scattered showers and thunderstorms in the evening and at night.
In the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon and evening, with isolated heavy rainfall in some areas.
