Lieutenant Colonel Tran Huu Ich, head of the Danang Military Command, told local media on July 4 that the unit is currently building a helicopter landing site in Tra Tap Commune with a total investment of VND 7 billion (approximately USD 275,000).
Weather forecasts indicate that this year’s rainy season will continue to see complicated and unpredictable developments. As early as June, heavy rains have already triggered landslides in several river-adjacent communes, including Tra Tap.
In response, the military has begun constructing the helicopter landing site in the area. The site is intended not only for stockpiling essential supplies such as food, medicine and rescue equipment, but also to serve as a critical hub for airlifting people and goods in case roads become impassable.
“We are proposing that the Danang People’s Committee issue an emergency order to build another helicopter landing site in Hung Son Commune, with estimated costs between VND 7 billion and VND 10 billion (approximately USD 275,000 to USD 393,000),” Ich said. “This is also a high-risk area that often suffers severe damage during storm season.”
In 2021, the Danang Military Command built a similar helicopter landing zone in Phuoc Thanh Commune at a cost of VND 5 billion (approximately USD 197,000). The site has proven highly effective in supporting rescue operations in recent years.
