At the end of the morning session on Thursday, the VN-Index rose by 7.19 points to 1,391. The VN30-Index climbed 10.27 points, while the HNX-Index edged up 1.19 points, and the UPCoM-Index added 0.64 points.
The matching transaction value across the market exceeded VND 15.872 trillion (approximately USD 622 million). The trading board turned green, with 212 gainers, including one that hit the daily ceiling, 55 unchanged, and 92 decliners.
Steelmaker Hoa Phat Group (HPG) led the group of stocks contributing positively to the index, followed by VPB, MSN, HDB, EIB and ACB.
Foreign investors were net buyers this morning, with HPG receiving the highest net buying value of over VND 45 billion (approximately USD 1.76 million). Other top picks included SSI, VPB, VCB, and MWG. On the flip side, they sold off DHC, GEX, GMD, FTS, and ACB.
The rally followed a phone call between Communist Party of Vietnam General Secretary To Lam and US President Donald Trump, during which they discussed bilateral relations and reciprocal trade tariffs.
During the call, both leaders welcomed the conclusion of the Joint Statement on the US-Vietnam Framework Agreement on Fair and Balanced Reciprocal Trade, achieved by the two negotiating teams.
President Trump praised Vietnam's commitment to granting preferential market access to American goods. He confirmed that the US would significantly reduce reciprocal tariffs on a range of Vietnamese exports and pledged continued cooperation in resolving trade-related issues, especially in priority sectors for both countries.
US markets also responded positively. The S&P 500 rose 0.47 per cent to a record high of 6,227 points. The Nasdaq Composite climbed 0.9 per cent to an all-time high of 20,393 points. However, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) edged down 10.5 points, or 0.02 per cent.
