Many streets in Thai Nguyen are deeply flooded on the morning of June 30.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, between 8 pm and 9 pm on June 29, heavy rainfall was recorded in several areas, including 46.8 millimetres in Quan Chu town and 45.6 millimetres in Binh Son commune.

The rainfall led to extensive flooding across urban centres, particularly in Thai Nguyen City, Song Cong City and Pho Yen City, with water levels commonly reaching 30 to 50 centimetres.

Social media users shared images showing some areas in Thai Nguyen City inundated by over one metre of water, with vehicles partially submerged or nearly engulfed by floodwaters.

As of 6 am on June 30, rain continued to fall across the region.

Just a week earlier, a separate downpour caused flash flooding across 19 wards and communes in Thai Nguyen, forcing over 100 households in Thai Nguyen City and Song Cong to evacuate to safety.

The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has warned that from the morning of June 30 through the night of July 1, northern Vietnam is expected to experience moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, with rainfall ranging from 70 to 150 millimetres, and in some places exceeding 300 millimetres.

Heavy rainfall poses a risk of flash floods in small rivers and streams, as well as landslides on steep slopes in Dai Tu, Dong Hy, Phu Luong and Thai Nguyen City.
