Ksor Ho Lon and Ho Uon receive financial support to build their new homes on June 23.

Two families under challenging circumstances in Hai Rieng Town, Song Hinh District, Phu Yen Province, are set to receive new homes and financial support for livelihood development thanks to donations from Dantri readers and local benefactors.

On June 23, Dantri Newspaper, coordinating with the Hai Rieng Town People's Committee, held a groundbreaking ceremony for two new houses for Ksor Ho Lon, 38, and Nay Ho Uon, 25.

Each house will cost VND 130 million (approximately USD 5,100), donated by Dantri readers and local philanthropists.

Ksor Ho Lon, a mother of five aged between 20 and three, has been raising her children alone since her husband left after their marriage broke down. Her two eldest sons have disabilities and now live with her brother. Her three small daughters live with her in a cramped makeshift house with wooden plank walls and a corrugated iron roof, posing serious safety risks during storms.

Following a Dantri article about her situation, readers contributed over VND 147 million (approximately USD 5,750) to help her.

"I decided to use VND 100 million from Dantri readers and VND 30 million from local donors to build a house. The remaining VND 47 million will be used to buy a cow to raise and generate income," Ho Lon said.

Ho Uon, a single mother, raises two small children who frequently fall ill. The three live in a rundown shack made of rusty tin sheets.

Without a stable job, Ho Uon struggles to meet basic needs, and both her children suffer from severe malnutrition due to a lack of proper nutrition.

As of the groundbreaking, Dantri readers had donated more than VND 88 million (approximately USD 3,440) to Ho Uon. She will use VND 80 million of that and VND 50 million from local benefactors to build her new home. The remaining VND 8 million will be saved to purchase a cow.

Both women expressed their gratitude to Dantri and its readers at the ceremony.

Ngo Binh Thinh, Chairman of the Hai Rieng Town People's Committee, confirmed that both women's families are classified as poor households in the area.

With a budget of VND 130 million per house, local authorities and construction teams agreed to build 60-square-metre homes with tiled floors, corrugated iron roofs, metal doors, and separate bathrooms and toilets.

"On behalf of the local authorities, I would like to thank Dantri and its readers for helping people like Ho Lon and Ho Uon improve their lives," Thinh said.

He added that the town would continue mobilising resources to support the families with cattle and means of earning a sustainable living.
