
PM Pham Minh Chinh and leaders begin activities at the 46th ASEAN Summit and related meetings
In addition to ASEAN and Timor-Leste leaders, the meetings are joined by ministers and senior officials representing ASEAN’s three community pillars, Timor-Leste’s foreign minister and high-level representatives, the ASEAN Secretary-General, and other relevant parties. The summit is expected to bring together around 1,000 delegates and attract hundreds of domestic and international journalists.
Vietnam’s high-level delegation attends this year’s summit with a consistent message of proactiveness, responsibility, and readiness to make greater contributions to ASEAN’s joint efforts. Vietnam looks forward to working with fellow member states in shaping strategic directions and identifying concrete measures to further consolidate regional cooperation and elevate the ASEAN Community’s role in the coming period.
Hosted by Malaysia in its capacity as ASEAN Chair for 2025, the 46th ASEAN Summit and its related meetings are taking place on May 26–27 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre under the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability.”, featuring the participation of leaders from ASEAN, Timor-Leste, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and China.
With around ten sessions on the agenda, the leaders will hold extensive discussions on intra-bloc cooperation, strengthening economic resilience, expanding ties with external partners, and identifying new drivers of cooperation amid growing regional and global uncertainties.
Key priorities include strengthening ASEAN’s central role in promoting strategic trust through dialogue, diplomacy, and goodwill; expanding meaningful and effective cooperation with external partners; fostering inclusive and sustainable growth by boosting intra-regional trade and investment; enhancing economic cooperation and integration with partners; improving connectivity among markets and supply chains; promoting green finance and investment; building digital self-reliance; developing the community by narrowing development gaps and reducing inequality; improving people’s quality of life; and mitigating the impacts of climate change.
These meetings are important occasions for leaders to exchange views, evaluate, and reach consensus on strategic directions to deepen cooperation, sustain progress in building the ASEAN Community, strengthen capabilities for response, adaptation, and coordinated action, contributing to peace, stability, collaboration, and prosperity."
On May 26, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is scheduled to attend several key events: the plenary and retreat sessions of the 46th ASEAN Summit, a dialogue with representatives of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), a meeting with ASEAN youth representatives, a session with the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC), along with various important bilateral and multilateral activities.
