The three workers being treated at Thong Nhat General Hospital on May 25.
The incident occurred on the night of May 25 as the workers were doing overtime at the ceramic tile factory in Tan An Commune. While working, all five began experiencing symptoms including headaches and dizziness before collapsing and losing consciousness.
Colleagues rushed the victims to Thong Nhat General Hospital, located about 15 kilometres away. However, two workers, Nguyen Long Sang, 38, and Nguyen Hoang Quang Le, 26, were pronounced dead en route.
According to a preliminary report from Thong Nhat General Hospital, all five victims showed signs of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. The three survivors, Dang Cao Hien, 44, Nguyen Tan Huy, 34, and Le Van Ngoc, 40, are now in stable condition.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the incident.
Medical experts note that carbon monoxide can displace oxygen in the blood, leading to symptoms such as headache, dizziness, blurred vision, nausea, and gradual loss of consciousness. High exposure can quickly become fatal, particularly for vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, children, the elderly, and those with chronic heart or lung conditions. Around 40 percent of people affected by CO poisoning may suffer long-term complications, including memory loss, facial paralysis, hemiplegia, and impaired motor function.
