Dantri Newspaper, in coordination with the authorities of Lao Cai Province, holds an inauguration ceremony for four newly built houses for impoverished households in Bat Xat District on May 23.

At the event, Editor-in-Chief of Dantri, Pham Tuan Anh, expressed heartfelt gratitude to readers, donors, local authorities and government agencies for their support of the housing construction initiative and other social activities led by the newspaper.

“Dantri, which comprises the Dantri online newspaper and the printed journal ‘Internal Affairs and Society,’ has officially become the media agency of the Ministry of Home Affairs since March 1. Beyond being a reliable and objective news source for many readers, Dantri has always embraced its social responsibility by actively participating in charitable and humanitarian programmes,” he said.

According to Anh, thanks to the trust of readers nationwide, Dantri has so far built 30 bridges and 57 educational facilities across Vietnam.

In response to the Government’s 2024 campaign to eliminate makeshift and dilapidated housing, Dantri set a goal to complete 100 homes for low-income families nationwide within the 2024–2025 period.

Thanks to strong support from readers, philanthropists, businesses and local governments, Dantri has already reached this goal ahead of schedule. The new target is to construct an additional 100 homes by the end of this year.

Between April 10, 2024, and now, Dantri has commenced construction on 129 homes, 98 of which have already been completed. This week, five more houses will be inaugurated in Tuyen Quang, raising the total number of completed houses to 103.

In 2024, Lao Cai was severely affected by Typhoon Yagi. On behalf of its readers, Dantri sent VND 2 billion (approximately USD 78,500) to the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front, along with dozens of tonnes of food and essential supplies for affected residents.

Since the storm, Dantri has started construction on 11 homes in Lao Cai Province.

Editor-in-Chief Pham Tuan Anh expressed hope that these new, safe and well-built houses would help families stabilise their lives and strive for a better future, contributing to the local economy.

He added that Lao Cai is working toward completing the Government-led programme to eliminate makeshift and substandard housing by June 30.

“To reach this goal, in addition to local resources, we are also mobilising support from social organisations, businesses, philanthropists and individuals, including Dantri,” said Minh.

“Dantri is a prestigious newspaper. Besides its journalistic mission to disseminate the Party and State’s policies, it has excelled in charitable work, showing deep concern for struggling families, the elderly living alone, and children in difficult circumstances.”

One of the four recipients of the new houses, Nong Thi Sai, expressed sincere appreciation to the local authorities and Dantri for helping her family build a solid, dream-come-true home. She said the new house, covering 77 square metres, had long been a cherished aspiration for her family.

On this occasion, Dantri also presented housewarming gifts worth VND 1 million (approximately USD 39) in cash to each of the four households.
