Fishing boat caught illegally transporting 60,000 litres of diesel

A fishing boat has been caught illegally transporting around 60,000 litres of diesel in southwestern waters.

According to Coast Guard Region 4, at around 10 pm on May 20, during a maritime patrol, its officers detected fishing boat TG 91387 TS after noticing suspicious behaviour.

The boat was captained by Le Van Duc, 41, from Phu Tan District, Ca Mau Province and owned by Ho Ngoc Thanh from Tien Giang Province’s My Tho District.

The coast guard found 60,000 litres of diesel oil without proof of legal origin on the boat. Duc admitted the fuel was intended for resale to offshore fishing vessels.

Coast Guard Region seized the vessel and are taking it to Squadron 422’s port in An Thoi, Phu Quoc for further investigation.

The incident is part of a nationwide crackdown on smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and intellectual property violations, instructed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
