On the afternoon of May 18, Van, a local man who was fishing in the bay, spotted the dolphins moving in groups, frequently surfacing and diving. Some swam as close as 50 metres from his boat, much to the excitement of everyone on board.
“They kept surfacing and diving. At one point, a few dolphins were just 50 metres from our boat. We were all thrilled,” Van said. “They swam around for about ten minutes before disappearing.”
Captivated by the rare sight, Van and several others recorded the moment on their phones and shared the footage on social media.
Dam Hai Van, head of the Nha Trang Bay Management Board, said the appearance of the dolphin pod is a positive sign that the bay’s marine environment was recovering.
This is not the first time dolphins have been seen in the waters off Khanh Hoa Province. In 2022, fishermen and visitors twice reported sightings of large dolphin pods in Van Phong Bay, located in Van Ninh District.
