Heavy rain topples power poles, causing blackouts in Gia Lai - 1

Many power poles falls during heavy rainfall and strong winds in the Central Highlands Province of Gia Lai's Chu Pah District on May 14.

On May 15, authorities in Ia Ka Commune reported that they were working with relevant agencies to address the aftermath of the storm. At around 6 pm on May 14, the downpour caused at least seven utility poles along Provincial Road 661 to collapse, with power lines hanging across the road and obstructing traffic for several hours.

Upon receiving reports from local residents, Chu Pah Electricity mobilised dozens of workers in coordination with the Ia Ka People’s Committee to clear the damaged infrastructure. The incident caused power outages overnight in several communes, including Ia Nhin, Ia Ka, and Ia Mo Nong.

Police in Ia Ka Commune set up barricades at both ends of the affected section of the road to ensure traffic safety amid continuing rain and poor visibility.

Truong Quang Long, Director of Chu Pah Electricity, said, “The rainstorm on the night of May 14 was extremely intense, with strong winds and thunderstorms that broke multiple power poles in half. As of now, around 200 households in Chu Pah District remain without electricity. We are mobilising all available resources to restore power by the end of today.”
