A serious road collapse occurs on the approach to Hoa Binh Bridge in Tay Ninh Province, injuring six people on May 11.

Authorities in Tay Ninh Province are investigating the cause of a serious road collapse on the approach to Hoa Binh Bridge in Chau Thanh District, which resulted in two motorbikes and a car plunging into a sinkhole and injuring six people.

The incident occurred at around 4 am on May 11. A 35-metre section of the road leading to the bridge suddenly caved in, forming a trench about 3 metres deep.

At the time of the collapse, a car carrying four passengers and two motorbikes was passing over the bridge when it fell into the hole. All six individuals sustained injuries and were taken to Tay Ninh General Hospital for emergency treatment.

A Chau Thanh District People’s Committee representative said the likely cause was a slippage of an underground mud pocket. The project had not yet been officially inspected or handed over.

Following the incident, authorities deployed workers to drill and conduct a geological survey of the affected area to determine the depth and extent of the underground mud pocket. This will support a comprehensive remediation plan.

Barricades have been installed at both ends of the bridge and its approach to prevent all pedestrian and vehicle access.

According to reporters on the scene, in addition to the collapsed section, the remaining road surface showed numerous cracks, posing a risk of further collapse.
