According to Thinh, many locals and tourists got oil on their feet and hands without realising it. The stains couldn’t be washed off with water, but required cleaning agents.

Tuy Hoa City has zoned and posted warning signs in affected areas to ensure the safety of locals and tourists. This morning, May 1, they collected nearly 200 kilogrames of oil on the beach.

The Tuy Hoa City People’s Committee has asked agencies to co-operate in identifying the cause of the oil slick.

In September 2024, an oil slick were also discovered at a beach in Nha Trang City in the southern central province of Khanh Hoa.

Doctors at Khanh Hoa Dermatology Hospital have advised people not to use petrol but soap and water to clean off oil.
