14 people killed in traffic accidents on first day of reunification holiday

The Traffic Police Department has reported that on the first day of the Reunification Day and May Day holiday, 42 traffic accidents occurred nationwide, resulting in 14 deaths and 38 injuries.

A traffic accident occurs in Dien Bien Province, killing one person on April 30.

Compared to the same day during the 2024 holiday, the number of accidents decreased by 42 cases, with 21 fewer deaths and 27 fewer injuries.

On the first day of the five-day holiday on April 30, local traffic police handled over 8,700 violations of traffic safety regulations, revoking 368 driver's licenses. Among the violations, more than 1,400 cases involved alcohol consumption, over 2,400 cases involved speeding, and five cases involved drug use.

Regarding traffic conditions in Hanoi and its neighboring provinces, the traffic police noted that from 4 pm to 10 pm on April 29, the volume of vehicles at the city's gateways and on some expressways surged dramatically, causing slow movement.

Heavy traffic was reported on key routes such as Phap Van – Cau Gie Expressway; Giai Phong and Giap Bat streets; National Highway 1; Ring Road 3; Noi Bai Airport access roads; and the Hanoi – Thai Nguyen and Hanoi – Lao Cai expressways.
