A nest of seven snakes is found hiding inside the air conditioner of a family in Quang Nam Province.

According to Nguyen Hanh, a resident of Binh Quy Commune, Thang Binh District, Quang Nam, the incident happened at noon on April 27. While preparing to rest, she noticed a tail protruding from the air conditioner.

"At first, I thought it was a rat's tail," Hanh recalled. "But then I suspected it might be a snake and called an air conditioning technician to check.

Upon opening the unit, the technician and the family were stunned to see several snake tails poking out.

"Initially, we saw three tails, then four more. In the end, the technician removed seven snakes hiding inside the air conditioner," Hanh said.

The technician, Nguyen Van Cong, initially assumed it was a rat. However, upon closer inspection, he realised it was a green snake tail.

"This is the first time I've seen so many snakes inside an air conditioner. Normally, it's just rats or birds," Cong said.

According to his assessment, the dense vegetation behind Hanh's house likely provided a habitat for the snakes. They may have slithered into the home through the air conditioner's drainage pipes. Additionally, when the air conditioner was installed, workers failed to properly seal the hole drilled into the wall, allowing the snakes easy access.

The snakes were identified as oriental vine snakes, known for their slender bodies and maximum length of about 1.3 metres when fully grown. These snakes are non-venomous, and while their bites are not dangerous to humans, they can cause itching.

Cong advised homeowners to have their air conditioners cleaned and maintained twice to three times yearly to prevent similar incidents.

"Regular maintenance not only ensures the air conditioner runs smoothly and consumes less electricity but also allows early detection and removal of foreign objects or pests," he said.
