According to the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), the five-day holiday, from April 29 to May 4, will see a significant surge in passenger numbers nationwide, particularly at Tan Son Nhat in HCM City and Noi Bai Airport in Hanoi.

The route between Hanoi and HCM City is forecast to be especially busy. There are 1,261 flights scheduled, representing a 16 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

During this peak travel period, Vietnamese airlines are expected to operate 7,536 domestic flights, averaging 685 daily flights, up 21 percent from 2024. The total seat supply will reach approximately 1.5 million.

ACV predicts major passenger growth at airports like Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat, Da Nang, Phu Quoc, Cam Ranh, Phu Bai, Phu Cat, Lien Khuong, and Con Dao. The busiest travel day is forecast to be April 29.

Flights to and from HCM City will account for most of the traffic, with 5,083 flights scheduled (an average of 462 daily flights).

On the peak day, Tan Son Nhat Airport alone is expected to handle 520 flights and 95,000 passengers, a 35 percent increase compared to 2024. To accommodate the surge, the airport will increase its take-off and landing capacity to 46 flights per hour between 6 am and 11 pm and 36 flights per hour between midnight and 5 am.

Passengers during this holiday period will also have the opportunity to experience the newly inaugurated Terminal 3 at Tan Son Nhat Airport. Vietnam Airlines has already begun operating flights between HCM City, Hanoi, and Van Don from the new terminal.

At Noi Bai Airport, domestic flights on the peak day are expected to reach 370, serving around 68,000 passengers, a 40 percent increase from last year.

Following ACV's directive, due to the ongoing aircraft shortage, airlines such as Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet plan to boost night-time operations (from 11 pm to 5 am) at both Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai airports.
