The Vietnam Green Building Council presents LOTUS certificate to Hue Monuments Conservation Center representative at Thai Hoa Palace.

This marks the first time a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in Vietnam has met green building standards.

Regarded as a symbol of imperial power under the Nguyen Dynasty, Thai Hoa Palace features distinctive architecture and serves as a central structure within the Hue Imperial Citadel complex.

The LOTUS certification not only recognizes the site's architectural and historical significance, but also highlights Hue’s efforts to restore Thai Hoa Palace in a sustainable and eco-friendly manner.

Spanning three years, from November 2021 to November 2024, the restoration project has been conducted under strict protocols, combining traditional materials with advanced conservation techniques to maximize energy efficiency, reduce emissions, and preserve the relic site’s original character to the fullest extent.

Douglas Lee Snyders, Executive Director of VGBC, praised Hue’s commitment to integrating green development principles into heritage conservation.

Thai Hoa Palace in the Imperial City of Hue attracts both local and foreign visitors.

He emphasized that LOTUS is not just a certificate but a statement that heritage is not only the past but also the future, if preserved properly.

With a budget of nearly VND 128 billion, the comprehensive restoration project includes preserving and rehabilitating the wooden structural frame, roof, walls, and flooring, as well as the decorative interior and exterior elements.

Following its restoration, Thai Hoa Palace has captured great attention from the public and tourists alike. Alongside efforts to promote the site's value, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center has also called on visitors to join hands in protecting and preserving this cultural treasure.

Originally built in 1805 during the reign of Emperor Gia Long near the Great Palace Gate, Thai Hoa Palace was later renovated and relocated to its current site in 1833 under Emperor Minh Mang.
