During a visit to Dak Lak early this month, photographer Tuan Nguyen met Pham Yen Dan from Cu Kuin District. He was impressed by her special eyes, one blue and one black. He captured a photo of her and posted it on his Facebook, quickly going viral.

Yen Dan is a pupil of Pham Hong Thai Primary School. According to her teacher, Nguyen Thi Bich Thao, Yen Dan’s parents were both born deaf and mute, but she was delivered healthy.
At school, Yen Dan is rather quiet and keen on art. Her parents work away from home, and she lives with her grandparents.

According to the girl’s grandmother, no one noticed anything unusual when Yen Dan was born at a local hospital. It wasn’t until some days later, after they returned home, that her mother was the first to realise her daughter had a rare pair of eyes, one blue and one black.
She added that many people are curious about her eyes, but they all adore Yen Dan for being such a well-behaved and considerate little girl.
