Quang Ninh police officer dies during drug raid

A police officer in the northern province of Quang Ninh has been killed while raiding a drug ring.

According to initial reports, at around 8.20 pm on April 17, near the Dragon Castle apartment complex in Ha Long City, the local police detained two suspects and seized 16 bricks of heroin. The two are Nguyen Huu Dang, 55, from Ha Long City and Ha Thuong Hai, 31, from Phu Tho Province.

While pursuing the remaining suspects, the criminals opened fire with military-grade weapons, fatally shooting Lieutenant Nguyen Dang Khai, 29, from Quang Ninh’s Drug Crime Investigation Division.

The shooter was identified as Bui Dinh Khanh, 31, from Ha Long City. The police have issued a warrant for his arrest.

At the scene, the police also confiscated two guns and a grenade.

By around 4.30 am on April 18, two more suspects, Hoang Van Dong and Ha Quang Son, both 31 and from Phu Tho, were arrested.

The case is under further investigation.
