Hanoi declares emergency for Duong River erosion

Hanoi authorities have declared an emergency for erosion at Duong River.

According to the Hanoi People’s Committee, the erosion at Duong River has worsened following Typhoon Yagi in September last year.

In Residential Area 38 in Ngoc Thuy Ward, Long Bien District, a 120-metre section of the riverbank has suffered from severe erosion, with a depth of roughly 50 metres. As a result, a temporary shelter of a local household was swept away into the river.

The eroded area is around 35 metres from the households.

If the problem is not resolved quickly, it will threaten the property and lives of nearby people.

The municipal people’s committee has asked the authorities of Long Bien District to closely monitor the erosion and take measures to fortify the riverbank. The issue should also be widely publicised to raise public awareness.

The Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment is legally responsible for informing the results of inspections and assessments and advising on the declaration and conclusion of an emergency due to natural disasters.
