Tourist amazed to get lost wallet back in Vietnam

A female tourist from Lithuania has been very stunned when her wallet, lost for two days in Ha Giang, was returned with everything intact.

On April 7, while patrolling Ma Pi Leng Pass, Captain Luc Cao Hiep from Ha Giang Province’s Traffic Police Board, discovered a black leather wallet lying by the roadside.

According to Hiep, the wallet contained an ID card, a driver’s license, three bank cards, and EUR560 (USD618).

He reported the incident to his agency and sent the information to administrators of some online travel groups to in hopes of finding the wallet’s owner.

Nguyen Thuat, the admin of a popular Ha Giang travel group, shared the information from Captain Luc Cao Hiep in a post. Just some hours later, Guoda Žukienė, 30, from Lithuania got in touch with him. She confirmed that the wallet belonged to her.

Žukienė recalled that she had lost the wallet while travelling through Ma Pi Leng Pass, but didn’t notice it was gone until she arrived in Ninh Binh.

She said that, since she did not travel with a tour group, she felt almost hopeless upon realising her wallet was missing, thinking she would never be able to recover her documents or belongings.

She returned to Ha Giang on April 9 to receive her wallet, documents, and money from the local traffic police. The Lithuanian tourist expressed her gratitude to the police and called the experience a highlight of her trip to Vietnam.

Žukienė and her friend are traveling through Vietnam on a two-week trip. Starting in Hanoi, she has visited Hoi An, Ha Giang, and Ninh Binh. After visiting Cat Ba, they will return to Hanoi to catch their flight home.
