Hanoi aims for fully electric bus fleet by 2030

Hanoi authorities have set a goal to use 100 percent of electric buses by 2030.

The Hanoi People's Committee Office issued a notice on Tuesday conveying Vice Chairman Nguyen Manh Quyen's conclusions on the city's roadmap for transitioning to electric and green-energy buses and policies to encourage investment in charging infrastructure and sustainable public transport.

Quyen assigned the Hanoi Department of Construction to promptly finalise the implementation plan for the city's approved project on developing a public transport system using electric and green-energy buses.

Hanoi authorities have set a goal to use 100 percent of electric buses by 2030

The Department of Construction is responsible for proposing solutions to effectively implement the transition roadmap. The target is to convert the city's bus fleet to electric or green energy by 2030. A year-by-year action plan must also be developed and submitted to the municipal people's committee for review no later than April 15.

The department will work with districts to review and update planning for land allocation to install charging stations and pillars at bus terminals, parking areas, rest stops, and other public spaces. The Hanoi Power Corporation ensures a stable power supply to support the city's transition to electric public transport.

The municipal people's committee will also offer interest rate support policies to encourage investment in public transport infrastructure and the city's procurement of green and clean-energy buses.
