Thick fog at airports disrupts many flights

Many flights departing from airports in the central region of Vietnam were rescheduled on Thursday due to fog, with the weather forecast to persist until March 15.

On Thursday morning, thick fog at Dong Hoi, Tho Xuan, and Vinh airports caused delays for several Vietnam Airlines flights between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and these airports.

Budget carrier VietJet Air had to adjust the schedules of several flights from Vinh, Phu Bai, and Tho Xuan airports.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, fog also disrupted many Vietnam Airlines flights at Phu Bai and Vinh airports.

A Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation representative stated that prolonged low clouds and fog have considerably affected airline operations. Flights have struggled with taking off and landing, leading to diversions to alternate airports or even cancellations. Managing flights will become even more challenging if these weather conditions occur simultaneously at multiple airports.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, fog and drizzle will persist at many Vietnamese airports until March 15, when a cold front arrives.
