Rare turtle handed over to Ha Tinh national park

A household in the central province of Ha Tinh has handed over a rare turtle to Vu Quang National Park.

Earlier, the box turtle was found creeping into the household's garden from the nearby river.

Recognising that it was a rare and valuable wild animal, the household contacted the authorities to hand it over for release into its natural habitat.

The animal weighs around 12 kilos.

The box turtle, classified under Group IB, is a rare species in Vietnam's Red Book and the IUCN Red List. It requires strict conservation and protection measures.
