Hanoi declared world's second-most polluted city

According to data released by Swiss air quality technology company IQAir this morning, February 11, Hanoi was ranked the second most air-polluted city in the world.

Hanoi declared world's second-most polluted city - 1

Hanoi has experienced poor air quality for many consecutive days, with thick smog covering the skies and dry weather.

Data from IQAir showed that the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Hanoi had reached 223 at 8 am today, which is very harmful to health.

Many areas in Hanoi had AQIs between 151 and 200, which is unhealthy.

The Ministry of Health recommended that residents restrict outdoor activities when the AQI is unhealthy (150 to 200).

The capital has experienced poor air quality for many consecutive days, with thick smog covering the skies and dry weather.

Statistics indicated that during peak pollution periods between September and March, the AQI often fluctuates around 200, far exceeding safe levels and posing serious health risks.

The daily and annual average concentrations of particulate matter (PM) 10 and PM2.5 dust in Hanoi exceed the recommended World Health Organisation levels.

According to the Air Quality Management Plan until 2030, Hanoi aims to reduce total PM2.5 emissions by 20 percent compared to 2019, equivalent to a reduction of 6,200 tonnes of fine dust. One key solution is implementing an automatic monitoring system to track and supervise air quality.

Furthermore, the city is researching and seeking input to refine policies supporting clean energy buses, expanding the metro system, and developing modern public transport projects. Developing green transport is a long-term solution to address air pollution.
