Tuy Phuoc District is a low-lying area frequently submerged during torrential rainfall.
Roughly 2,000 hectares of rice in the communes of Phuoc Thuan, Phuoc Son, Phuoc Hoa and Phuoc Thang have died after being severely flooded.
Tran Dinh Suu, 64, said as many as 2,520 square metres of his family’s rice fields have been replanted but remain still submerged.
Some fields in Phuoc Thang Commune, Tuy Phuoc District, remain waterlogged, preventing farmers from planting their crops. According to weather forecasts, Binh Dinh will continue to experience rain in the days to come.
Ho Van Truc, 60, from My Cang Village in Phuoc Son Commune said that his family has nearly one acre of farmland. In October, they lost 80 kilogrammes of rice seeds in the first sowing because of the flooding. They recently re-sowed the rice, but just over 10 days after planting, heavy rains struck once more.
Truc worried that if the rains continue, the young rice plants will be badly affected.
