The Day River runs through nine Hanoi districts, with the sections passing through the Dan Phuong and Hoai Duc districts being the most polluted. The recent lack of heavy rainfall has exacerbated the situation.
Wastewater from Cong Hoa Commune, Quoc Oai District's residential areas, is poured directly into the river.
Soil and rocks are being dumped along the banks of the Day River in Van Con Commune, Hoai Duc District.
The Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment reported that the Day River has been contaminated by BOD5, COD, NH4+, and PO43- affecting water quality parameters.
According to the Hanoi People's Committee, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has initiated a project to dredge the Day River. The project will dredge a 23-kilometre river section stretching from Dan Phuong District to Ha Dong District in Hanoi.
The Hanoi People's Committee has instructed concerned agencies to intensify inspections and correct violations that contribute to the river's pollution on time.
