Although Tet is a month away, many kumquat trees in Van Giang Gardens have sold out.

Most trees here are large and carefully pruned and shaped, so they are expensive.

A local gardener, Nguyen Tri, revealed that the most popular shape this year is the jar, which may take several days to form.
"We have 30 jar-shaped trees this year, which have already been sold at prices of between VND15-20 million each," Tri said. "Our trees are about five years old and between 3-4 metres high and 1.20 metres in diameter."

Another gardener, Nguyen Van Thanh, shared that beautiful kumquat trees for Tet decorations must have big ripened fruits, young buds, blooming flowers, leaves, and fresh sprouts.

"A tree with lots of fruits and flowers and fresh sprouts will represent lots of wealth and good fortune for the new year," he explained.

A customer in the neighbouring province of Ha Nam bought a pair of dragon-shaped trees for VND50 million.
