According to the National Centre for Hydrometeorological Forecasting, the intense cold spell which will last several days will bring cold weather and strong winds to many areas from the northern mountainous to the coastal central regions.
Average temperatures in the northern and northern central localities will fall to 12-15 degree Celsius while the northern mountainous areas may see temperatures of below 10 degrees Celsus.
Meanwhile, Storm Pabuk, the 10th of its kind to hit the East Sea this year, has weakened into a tropical depression since December 25 and is bringing heavy rain to the central and south-central regions, the centre said.
Due to the impact of Pabuk and the cold air from the north, heavy rain is expected in localities from Quang Tri to Phu Yen, with rainfall likely to climb to 40 - 60mm.
The tropical depression will also have a significant impact on coastal provinces, with strong winds and a high risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas, warned meteorologists.
Authorities warned residents to prepare for measures to prevent damage caused by the tropical depression, especially in areas vulnerable to flooding, such as coastal and mountainous regions.
