Tropical depression on the East Sea to intensify into storm

A tropical depression on the East Sea has been forecasted to intensify into a storm today, December 23.

According to the National Centre for Hydrometeorological Forecasting, the storm's maximum wind speed would be level 8 (63-74 km/h), with gusts reaching level 10.

The storm would affect the southern part of the East Sea, including the Spratly Islands and the southwestern waters of the central East Sea.

Due to the storm's impact, many areas in the central region of Vietnam will likely experience moderate to heavy rain from the night of December 23 to December 26.

Rainfall is predicted to range from 100-300mm, with some areas possibly surpassing 500mm.

The eastern region of the Central Highlands will experience heavy rain, with a rainfall of 5-100 mm on December 24-25. Some areas will see a rainfall of up to 200mm.

The heavy rains would lead to flooding in low-lying areas, flash floods in small rivers and streams, and landslides on steep slopes.

During Christmas, Hanoi and other northern localities are expected to experience fog at night and early morning, with temperatures ranging from 10 to 23 degrees Celsius.
