According to the Duy Xuyen District People's Committee, heavy downpours have raised river levels over the past few days. Some hydropower plants upstream have had to discharge water from their reservoirs, leading to serious flooding in low-land areas in Duy Chau and Duy Trinh communes.

"Since December 14, many communal roads, as well as the National Road 14H in Duy Xuyen, have been put 30-60 cm under water," the committee said. "We've had to put up signs and barriers to keep people away from deeply-flooded areas."

The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported that heavy rains have caused flooding in some central provinces but are expected to subside gradually on Monday.
