Prime minister approves 9-day Tet break

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has approved a nine-day holiday for the upcoming Tet Lunar New Year Festival.

The 2025 Tet holiday will begin on Saturday, January 25 and end on Sunday, February 2, 2025.

The government leader's decision was followed by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs proposal.

The regulations for the annual Tet holiday are for people working at state-owned agencies, but all businesses are encouraged to apply the schedule and must inform their staff at least 30 days in advance.

Since 2021, employees in Vietnam have enjoyed 11 public holidays, including the New Year, the Tet Lunar New Year, Reunification Day (April 30), May Day (May 1), National Day (September 2), and Hung Kings' Commemoration Day (the 10th of the third lunar month).

Part-time employees will receive at least 150 percent of their daily pay, 200 percent if working on their day off, and 300 percent on national holidays.

Foreign workers in Vietnam are entitled to 11 days off for these public holidays and two more for their country's New Year's Day and National Day.
