These old bridges are iconic and deeply connected to the city's historical development, but many have deteriorated, disrupting traffic and posing safety risks.

The city previously replaced four railway bridges at Kinh Thanh Da, Rach Chiec, Long Kieng, and Phu Long and is building new Rach Dia and Phuoc Long railway bridges. Meanwhile, preparations are underway to construct others at Rach Cat, Rach Tom, and Rach Doi bridges.

Over the past years, the city has built ten new overpasses at key intersections, helping to alleviate traffic congestion at Hang Xanh and Thu Duc junctions, the Pham Van Dong-Nguyen Thai Son intersection, the Nguyen Kiem-Nguyen Oanh-Quang Trung roundabout and the Ba Thang Hai-Nguyen Tri Phuong junction.

The city has also added overpasses at the Bon Xa Junction and the Vo Thi Sau-Cach Mang Thang Tam-Ba Thang Hai roundabout.
