Northern region forecasted to brace for first major cold snap

The northern region of Vietnam has been predicted to see the first widespread cold spell of the year early next month.

The National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting reported that cold weather will impact northern localities on November 4-5.

On November 5, temperatures in the northern mountainous provinces of Lang Son and Cao Bang are expected to drop sharply to 17 degrees Celsius, while in Hanoi, they will fall to between 18 and 21 degrees Celsius.

From now to November 3, the northern region could continue to experience cool, sunny, and dry weather with the highest temperature of 28-31 degrees Celsius.

According to the centre, cold air will intensify from November to December. Between January and February 2025, cold air would increase in intensity and frequency, leading to widespread severe and prolonged cold waves across northern provinces.
