According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, the cold spell, which will last until October 16, will cause temperatures to fall by between 2-3 degrees Celsius. There will also be rain in the mornings and evenings.

Then another cold spell will continue to affect the region from October 19-21 with showers and strong wind.

According to the centre, more intense cold spells will hit the northern localities from November.

Meanwhile, the region has been struggling with bad air pollution amid the dry weather over the last few weeks.

The AccuWeather site forecasted that Hanoi would have harmful air on October 14, with the air quality index (AQI) remaining high at over 100, while the ideal index for human health is between 0 and 50.

AccuWeather advised residents to refrain from venturing outside unless necessary.

Data released by Switzerland-based air quality monitor IQAir AirVisual showed that the AQI in Hanoi reached 174 on October 7, placing it at the top of the world’s most air-polluted cities list.
