The landslide occurred in Nam Tong Village in Bac Ha District on September 10, burying 18 residents. To date, seven have been found dead, while 11 others have remained missing. Eight houses were swept away.

A representative from the People’s Committee of Bac Ha District said that a 6-hectare land plot has been selected to construct the resettlement area. The new place is around three kilometres from Nam Tong Village.
Local authorities have planned to build prefabricated metal houses in the resettlement area. Meanwhile, roughly 30 households living near Nam Tong Village must also be evacuated.
Lao Cai authorities have started constructing a resettlement area project for residents from Lang Nu Village who lost their homes in recent flash floods and landslides. The village struggled with flash floods on September 10, leaving 33 houses ruined and 52 people dead, 15 injured, and 14 missing.
To date, Lao Cai has received VND69.7 billion (USD2,881) from various agencies, businesses, organisations, and individuals to help local people affected by floods and landslides.
