A report from the Bao Yen District People's Committee said that the tragic accident occurred at 10.15 am on September 10 in Lang Nu Village when a large amount of rocks and soil from a nearby mountain fell onto 35 houses, burying 128 people.

Speaking with Dantri Newspaper on Tuesday evening, the chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee, Trinh Xuan Truong, said that by 6 pm the same day, rescue forces managed to save over 30 people and found 15 bodies inside the debris.
"We're still trying to search for some 40 people who remain missing," the official said.
Lao Cai Province has faced heavy rain triggered by Typhoon Yagi over the past few days, causing serious flooding and landslides in many areas.
An update report by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that as of 6 pm on September 10, Typhoon Yagi and landslides, flooding had left 127 dead, 54 missing in the northern region. Lao Cai suffered the most with 38 fatalities and 13 missing, excluding the figures of the latest case in Bao Yen District.
