Hanoi authorities have banned trains from using Long Bien Bridge due to the sharply rising water level of the Red River.

According to Phan Quoc Anh, deputy director of Vietnam Railways Corporation, the water level on the Red River is rapidly increasing with a strong current following heavy rain triggered by the Typhoon Yagi. Therefore, the firm has decided to suspend the train service on Long Bien Bridge.

Trains will pick up and drop off passengers at Gia Lam Station.

Long Bien Bridge allows trains to travel at 15 kilometres per hour. The water level is only a few metres below the bridge, but rising water and a strong current threaten it.

Anh added that the Giap Bat Station area was severely flooded, preventing trains from handling freight. The railway sector has informed freight owners of loading and unloading locations.

At 8:30 this morning, September 10, heavier vehicles were also banned from Chuong Duong Bridge on the Red River.
