Thousands of children in HCM City have been provided with the measles vaccine during the four-day National Day (September 2) holiday.
The city started a measles vaccination campaign for children from August 31 amid an outbreak.
The municipal Centre for Disease Control has purchased 300,000 doses of the measles vaccine using the city’s budget for the campaign.
Around 7,500 children in 22 districts in the city were provided with measles vaccine today, September 2.
The one-month first phase of the campaign benefits children aged one to five years and those who are aged six to 16 years old and are under treatment in hospitals.
The second phase, scheduled to take place in October, will cover children aged 6-10 and those not yet vaccinated in the first phase.
The measles vaccination campaign has seen no severe reactions over the first two days.
Some days ago, HCM City authorities declared a measles outbreak across the city due to a surge in cases.
Measles can only be effectively managed when the community immunity rate reaches 95 percent and each individual has received two doses of the vaccine.
