Chairman of the Cu Yen Commune People's Committee, Dinh Cong Tra, said that the incident occurred early on the morning of August 30 when the two boys aged seven and 13 were walking on a small bridge.
"It was raining at that time and the flash flood hit as the two boys were walking on a small bridge which spanned a small river," the official said. "The flood water rose over the bridge and swept them away. We immediately sent a rescue team of over 60 people to search for them."
Many localities in the northern regions including Hanoi, Lao Cai, Thai Nguyen, and Hoa Binh have faced serious flooding following heavy rain which laste from Thursday evening until Friday morning. It is forecasted that rains will return on Friday evening and local people have been warned of flash floods and landslides.
