According to a report from local police, the incident occurred at 10 pm on August 18 when the two women, 41-year-old Hoang Thi Khanh and 45-year-old Ly Thi Phuong, were crossing a stream and were suddenly swept away by a strong rising flood.
"After having dinner at their relative's home, the two women decided to walk across the stream while it was raining heavily and there was rising flood water," the police said. "Khanh's husband, Ly Van Chiem, informed us about his wife's disappearance on Monday morning. And we found the bodies of two women in the stream at 10 am the same day."
Earlier on July 13, a landslide triggered by a flash flood also killed 11 people and injured four others in Bac Me District.
