Captain Phan Anh Tuan, deputy commanding officer of Brigade 125 of the Naval Region 2, received the ship with 250 crew members on board on August 15 at Saigon Port.

This is Navy Ship HMCS Montreal's first visit to HCM City.

According to Lieutenant Commander Travis Bain, commanding officer of the ship, the crew was eager to come to Vietnam, an important partner of Canada in Southeast Asia. The trip is expected to boost security and regional stability in the Asia Pacific area as well as the naval co-operation between two countries.

During the stay in HCM City, the Canadian guests will lay a wreath at the Ho Chi Minh Monument, pay courtesy visits to the municipal people's committee, the 7th Military Region Command, and the Naval Region 2. They will also have exchanges with officers and soldiers of the Vietnam People's Navy.

The crews will then meet students from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Ho Chi Minh City and visit Ben Thanh Market where they will learn how to make Banh Xeo (Vietnamese pancake).
