
The water discharge of some upstream hydropower plants has caused the water level of the Chay River to rise considerably. This has caused inundation in some Yen Bai and Lao Cai riverside communes.

Several areas in Tan Linh, To Mau and Minh Chuan in Yen Bai’s Luc Yen District have been submerged, with water levels reaching a concerning 50-80 cm.

Local authorities in the affected communes have taken swift action, mobilising forces to provide crucial support to the local people.

The military and police have also joined the rescue.

By 5 pm on Monday, the water level on the Chay River remained high.

Rescue forces have been deployed in areas by the Chay River which pose flooding risks.

Around 20 households in Trang Village by the Chay River have been submerged. Some have been left a metre under water.
