More rain and storms forecasted to hit Vietnam from September

More rain and storms have been forecasted to affect Vietnam's northern and central regions between September and November.

More rain and storms have been forecasted to affect Vietnam's northern and central regions between September and November.

According to Nguyen Van Huong, head of the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting's Forecasting Department, rain in the northern region has tended to fall and will stop on August 7.

On August 8-11, the northern region would witness the hot weather.

Huong added that the La Nina phenomenon would begin impacting the country in late August and early September. The northern region's September rainfall would be higher than the multi-year average.

More storms would ravage the northern region from late September to November.

Since the beginning of the rainy season, the total rainfall in northern localities has been 30-80 percent higher than that of many previous years. Some have seen a rise of up to 80-100 percent, including Bac Quang in Ha Giang and Quang Ha in Quang Ninh.

Over the past week, rain and flooding in the northern region have killed nine people and flooded 600 houses. Meanwhile, 2,500 hectares of rice and crops have been damaged and submerged.
