Farmers in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum have worried over the falling prices of durians over the past few weeks.

According to some local farmers, it's been raining for nearly a month, and the prolonged rainy weather has badly affected the quality of durian fruits.

The prices of fruits have, therefore, continued falling.

On July 30, Thai Monthong durian fruits of the best quality were priced between VND88,000 and 91,000 per kilo at local gardens, while Type B fruits were priced between VND68,000 and 71,000 per kilo.

Farmers said the prices have fallen by up to VND20,000 per kilo over the past two weeks.

"Fewer traders have come to buy our fruits," a farmer, Nguyen Van Dung, said. Lots of fruits have started to ripen and fall, and we're having to bring them to market or sell them online."

A wholesale shop owner said that due to poor quality, durian sales have recently slowed. The quality of the fruits is not good enough for export.

The director of the Chanh Thu Company, Ngo Tuong Vy, said that the falling prices are also due to higher supplies.

"It is now the main harvesting season in the Central Highlands region, and the supply has become much higher than last month," she said. "That has also caused the prices to fall. However, the current prices are still much higher than in previous years."
