The Hong Thai-Tan Canal in Lien Chieu District is grappling with severe wastewater and rubbish pollution. This issue threatens the environment and the health and well-being of the nearby residential areas. Transforming this canal into a park is a much-needed solution to these problems.

Under the project the project will be covered to reduce inundation risks in the area and mitigate the foul odour.

Luong Van Khoi, a resident, said households near the canal struggle with the terrible odour of rubbish. He hoped that the canal would be covered soon to ease the pollution.

The road by the canal will be expanded to 7.5 metres from a current 5.5 metres wide. The two sides of the canal will be turned into a public park to provide residents with spaces for sports, recreation and community activities
